Your Participation as a Grange Member will further enhance the restoration and use of this hall for what we feel it is here for -- the Freshwater and grater Humboldt Communities. We hope all feel welcome to join and participate! In just two years the current membership has improved the building with a new 40-year roof, planters in the front, a new refrigerator, drainage around the foundation keeping groundwater from flooding the kitchen, lovely fresh paint in the bathrooms and main hall, new curtains, a wood burning stove installed for additional heat and (coming soon) a marquis being constructed on the corner of Grange and Freshwater roads to inform the community of upcoming events as well as a freshly pointed sign above the door. Yeah!

About the Grange
Being A Grange Member Sets That Person Apart!
The Grange is a multi-faceted organization with something for everyone. As a Grange member you will realize the double objectives of participation:
1. Personal growth from the interaction with other members from your community
2. Serving your neighbors, community, state, and nation by personal and group activities-worthwhile and important.
Not only do the benefits of membership make life more complete and pleasurable for members, but Grange service and legislative accomplishments have helped millions of people outside the organization
The Grange, Meeting The Needs of Its Members:
In the mid 1860's, the founders of the Grange were wise to develop a structure which they based on what was successful at that time. These Traditional Granges still use the fraternal structure that has served the Grange well since 1867. In many communities there are Action Granges, which have adopted a modern open structure found in most community organizations which are gowning and serving the needs of their communities.
Whether you seek to join an Action Grange or Traditional Grange, they both seek to uphold the traditions and essences of the Grange which is unique being based on the solid foundation of the American farm and rural family from which it derives its character, its progressive strength, and its tolerance borne out of a high moral tone without religious bias.
Members come from all walks of life and they are typically eager to enjoy the benefits of citizenship and to take their places in an active America, as knowledgeable, worthy citizens. They seek a satisfying involvement in their communities being involved citizens. They want to feel that their abilities are being used, and their influence means something not only in their local Grange but in the development of policies for state, national, and worldwide accomplishments of substantial worth.
The Traditional Grange combines its practical features with a beautiful ritual which depicts the finest features and traditions of the American family and country life. The Action Grange, seeks to perpetuate that American tradition of people helping people, while maintaining the high moral standards that made this county great. The Grange cooperates with the church, the school and every other American institution whose aims for progress and the enrichment of life are similar.
The Grange is one of the very few places where the whole family-all ages-may attend together for sociability, education, and to meet other families on a common level of understanding.
The Grange provides regular meetings for business and discussion as well as literary programs for sociability and education. An active member acquires many fine friends.
Preserving America:
While the Grange is non-partisan, it does take part in community life. It does not support any particular candidate for public office but maintains a lively interest and activity in local, state, and national legislation.
At an early date in the history of our nation, the founders recognized that groups of people would need to unite, through meetings and discussions, through decisions and actions, in ways that they could perfect or reconcile positions among themselves, then present viewpoints and recommendations to the proper authorities, at the same time as they were learning to solve, through united action, local problems and needs.
In the Bill of Rights, the First Amendment gave American's the "freedom of speech" and the right of people "peaceably to assemble." The Grange is an exemplification of this idea in that it provides the organizational basis for people, and offers individual members who are united as to over-all purpose and philosophy the opportunity to influence the course of action in their communities, the county, the state, and the nation, or even in the world itself, through creating and supporting the policies of the Grange at all levels.
The Grange Hall Dedication Ceremony Teaches Us:
"Within the walls of this Grange home will be taught the noblest ideals of civilization. Here will be given the individual opportunity that trains men and women for larger usefulness and civic service; here new emphasis will be placed upon the home, its influence extended and its ties strengthened; here also will be taught loyalty to country and to God and the never-ceasing duty each human being owes to his fellows."
An Invitation To Join The Grange:
We invite you to join with us in the Grange and help make our communities better places to live and work. To strengthen our families and provide for useful activities for our youth to understand their place in our society. We invite you to join with other people who believe in the inherent good of our country. Most of all we invite you to join with us and make a difference, together we can. The invitation is extended and it is now up to you.
